WILL IT HURT?
This is probably one of the most commonly asked questions at our shop. Unfortunately, there is no definitive answer to this question. Every individual experiences pain differently, therefore what hurts for one client may not necessarily hurt another. However, in general here is some basic information that we can give clients in regard to the pain factor:
- Cartilage piercings (inner and upper ear, septum) tend to hurt more than fleshy tissue.
- Tongue piercings tend to hurt the least out of any piercing because it is generally pierced between the two muscles. We often hear that the clamp we use when piercing is more uncomfortable than the piercing itself.
We offer freezing for some piercings which can decrease or totally take away any discomfort. Remember, your nerves will increase any pain you might feel. The most important thing to do when getting pierced is to relax as much as possible and concentrate on breathing slowly and steadily – this will do the most in minimizing any discomfort.
HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE?
There are currently no regulations in the body modification industry regarding age requirements. However, at Creation Body Piercing we have very strict policies regarding the age of our clients. To get a piercing without a parent or guardian present we require the client to be at least 16 years of age with photo identification for the majority of piercings. Between the ages of 13 and 15 clients need to bring in a direct mother, father or legal guardian to sign for the piercing. Parents or guardians must bring in proper photo identification (guardians must also bring legal papers from the court proving guardianship) and the client should bring in a student card, health card or birth certificate.
Genital piercings, as well as some facial piercings (anti-eyebrow, cheek, etc.) are available to anyone 18+.
CHILDREN’S EAR PIERCING SERVICES
We use single-use hypodermic needles for our piercings, so we like to take a bit of extra time with our younger clients to make sure that they are fully aware and prepared for the procedure. We offer professional children’s ear piercing services, (first ear lobes) to children as young as 5 years old, providing they demonstrate a willingness to get pierced, and an understanding that piercings are permanent body modifications.
Under no circumstances do we ever pierce babies or animals. This is for the safety of the infant (should the baby squirm during the process) and also because we don’t like doing anything that the individual who is getting pierced can’t consent to.
WHAT CONSTITUTES PROPER PHOTO ID?
We accept health cards with picture, drivers license, age of majority card, status card, passport, etc. We also accept birth certificates accompanied with a current student card or yearbook picture. Our main concern is that we see something with your name and birth date, and your name and picture.
I HAVE ALLERGIES TO CHEAP / POOR JEWELRY. CAN YOU PIERCE ME WITH GOLD, STERLING SILVER etc…?
Creation Body Piercing uses jewelry made of implant grade titanium (F-136). This implant grade metal will heal a piercing much faster than gold or silver, with a little chance of complication. Implant grade titanium can be sterilized in an autoclave and will never develop surface rust. Allergic reactions in body piercing, when they occur, are rarely due to this metal, but from other factors such as mechanical irritation or harsh cleaning products. Allergic reactions typically include itchiness, redness and swelling, with a discharge or clear fluid that is not lymph. Titanium is virtually nickel free and it is allergy safe.
I HAD A PIERCING DONE A WHILE AGO BUT I TOOK IT OUT AND ITS GROWN IN. CAN YOU RE-PIERCE ME IN THE SAME SPOT, THROUGH THE SCAR TISSUE?
Yes, most likely. Depending on if the nerve tissue was severed, the sensation of re-piercing may feel the same as the original piercing for some. For others it may be a little more sensitive.
DO I HAVE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO GET A PIERCING / HAVE JEWELRY CHANGED?
For piercings, we book by appointment Monday through Friday. Piercing walk-in’s are on Saturday and Sunday. You don’t need to make an appointment for a jewelry change. Jewelry insertions and removals are $5.
